Summer Reading Gift & Jelly bean day

What a great day!!  Today, every student in the school got to choose some brand new books to take home and enjoy at  home over the summer. The school has partnered with "First Book Canada" to purchase books for every student. Research shows that students who do not read daily over the summer can lose skills they have learned during the past school year. This is referred to as the "summer slide". We don't want that to happen to Stevenson Students.  Kindergarten students are off to a good start at reading…. and we want that to carry over into their daily life and into Grade One!!
Students are encouraged to read, and read lots! Check out the local library -- you can borrow books for free!  Have a book exchange with your neighbour or friends. Re-read your favourite books. In the fall, our school will be setting out a student book exchange, where students can "BOGO" -- bring one, get one!

This afternoon, we spent our time going around to different stations set up inside and outside the school. There were 35 stations in all!  At the end of the day, we all got a bag of jellybeans in celebration of completing all the stations - or as many stations as we could.
