Candy Land

Mrs. Johannson's daughter joined us for part of the day. (She has a day off from her high school exams.) The kids were excited to play the board game "Candy Land" with her.

We have been missing some kids each day this week. Today we had 4 kids absent.
We ended the day and the week with a popcorn treat!

Star of the Week

Our Star of the Week did a terrific job telling us all about herself today!

Construction time

Library Day

Bus Cancellations
Please be advised that with cold winter weather, there exists the possibility of school buses being cancelled for safety reasons. In the event of extremely cold weather (a wind chill hazard of -45°C or greater) buses will be cancelled and students will need alternate transportation.
Note: The wind chill is based on a reading taken by Environment Canada at 6:00 a.m. at The Forks.

The School Division will contact all parents via Synrevoice (automated phone messaging), to advise them of bus cancellations. The news media is also alerted to cancellations and Division websites are updated to reflect any announcements. Please find these announcements at the top of our home page. Media information is available on CJOB radio and web at http://www.cjob.com, and at www.sjasd.ca

During inclement weather, the safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. Our decision to keep schools open and/or bus services running is decided in affiliation with our Metro School Divisions and is based on a number of factors.

On any given school day, when the conditions are not favourable due to extreme weather conditions, parents have the option to keep their children at home. The education of our students is a priority but we also want all of our students to be safe at all times. In some circumstances, we recognize there is a need to keep our schools open for those students who are able to make it safely to school and to uphold normal routines for the families in our communities. On storm/snow days, we appreciate the flexibility our staff demonstrates, adjusting their classes accordingly based on the number of students in attendance in each school. We ask parents to always call or email the school if your child is unable to make it to school to ensure we are aware of all absences in the building.

Please ensure that the school is notified if your phone number changes so that we will be able to contact you.

This information is found on the SJASD website. Please refer to it for any other information you may be looking for.

Beautiful Kinder Notes!

I love watching the growth of kids throughout the Kindergarten year. They are like little sponges... and "soak up" so much knowledge! Today at centre time, one little guy wrote me a note. It sure made my heart smile!

In Kindergarten writing, it says.....
Mrs. Grant
you're the best teacher by Xa-
nder Rm. 7 Happy Valent-
ines Day!!!!!

awww...What a lucky teacher I am to get such a sweet note!
These 2 girls were also busy at the writing centre this afternoon!

She discovered she could make the number "9" with the train track!

Playing a rhyming game

Thinking skills... where do the mittens belong?

Learning Carpet

We used thumb tacks to poke holes in the dots that outlined the features of a snowman. When you hold it up to the light, or place it on a window, you can see the light shining through! (this helped us practice using our 2 pinching fingers, like when we hold our pencils)

Tuesday and Wednesday

This little fellow was busy making numbers out of blocks!

Today we were reading a story, and on this page, one little girl commented on how this was how we spelled the number "two" word on this page, NOT the "to" that we usually see in books.

We did a word puzzle, by matching the words and putting them in order to spell the lines in the poem "A Chubby Snowman".

Matching details on snowmen...

Create your own snowman

Yesterday was the Kindergarten Open House. I guess I was so busy thinking about this, that I totally forgot to post these pictures of our day in Kindergarten for Tuesday. So here you go-- pictures from yesterday!!
These kids were busy printing numbers on the white board... up to and past 100!

This was a counting activity, and matching the correct number of snowflakes to the number on the mitten.

We were practicing reading our little books to a partner.
This was our snowflake activity- recognizing numbers 1-20!!   Question.... "If I ate 2 jellybeans, and then I ate 4 more, how many did I eat?" --- Now find and colour the number 6.

Tuesday Sharing time... something that starts with a /B/ sound (barbie, ball, bird)
