BINGO!!

Today we played Colour and Shape Bingo! Everyone had lots of fun!

Mrs. Macdonell came to visit our classroom this afternoon. She talked to us about how our visits with baby Elias will work (as part of the Roots of Empathy program). We made predictions about if we think Elias will be bigger or smaller than us. We are looking forward to a visit with baby Elias and his mom next week! We are so excited!

Colourful names

Parent Council meeting tonight at 6:30PM. Free pizza and free babysitting, too!  Please come out and support our school and Parent Council. ALL parents welcome!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Today we created some colourful names. We used the little muscles in our hands (fine motor skills) to rip construction paper into small pieces, then used our newly discovered gluing skills to glue the little pieces of paper onto the letters of our name that were printed on a black paper. Here's how they turned out!

Healthy Snacks

Healthy snacks.....don't forget to send a healthy snack for your child -- we have one snack time in the morning, and one snack time in the afternoon. Healthy snacks are fuel for our bodies which help us learn!

Terry Fox Run

What a lovely day to go for a walk!  Today everyone from the whole school went outside and walked or ran around the field, in support of Terry Fox. Room 7 collected $39 for the Terry Fox Run!!

Stevenson School had 2 fire drills today. Here we are lining up in our designated spot in front of the school.

One of the friends in our classroom celebrated her 5th birthday this week. So everyone made a page to put in a birthday book for her. (We will be doing this as each person in our class celebrates his/her birthday in Kindergarten!)

All lined up and ready to go home at 3:40! Have a good weekend, and see you all on Monday!

Ten..

Ten is the answer to..... How many days of school?  Every morning we add a popsicle stick to our collection as we count how many days we have already been in school. Today we had a big group of ten.... so we bundled them up to make one group. Now tomorrow, we will already know that there are ten, and we won't need to count them again!

We learned how to play the "GO FISH" card game today. Try it at home!

    And we played Candyland....

We also had to match shapes to outlines to make pictures

Fall

Today is the first day of fall/autumn. We read a story called We're Going On a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger. We also learned the vocabulary for parts of the tree along the way (trunk, branches, leaves, roots, crown). This is part of our Science curriculum. We noticed that not all trees look the same, and the leaves turn different colours in the fall. We did a little role playing, and played a really fun game where some leaves blew out of a tree and we had to try and catch them in our nets!!  Lots of excitement!!!

Every Day 5 and 6 we go to the Music Room. Our music teacher's name is Ms. Rempel. Two of the songs we learned today were..."Elephants Have Wrinkles" and "Listen to the Ducks".

We also practiced a fire drill today. Now we know what to do in case of a fire emergency!! We are ready for a real fire drill practice when the fire alarm goes off!

Personal Space Bubbles

We have been learning about personal space since we started school. Today we used hula hoops to demonstrate. In the first photo, these boys are in each other's personal space bubble. Not good! (they did this just to show everyone). One boy is "popping" the other boy's personal space bubble by standing too close to him.
In this photo, they each have their own personal space. MUCH BETTER!
Then we went outside so we would have more room having everyone practice staying in their own personal space - using the hula hoops. (It was also fun trying to hula-hoop!)

Next we each got to have our own bubbles to blow -- which were o.k. to POP- if you could catch them !!
