It's a BOY!

Congratulations to Ms. Janz and her family on the arrival of the new addition to their family... a beautiful baby boy!  Cooper arrived early Sunday morning at 12:32AM.
(Mrs. Grant thought he was going to arrive on Friday, but Ms. Janz is a trooper, and even with her early labor pains, she made it through the last day of school before Spring Break!)
We will miss seeing her at school every day, but look forward to when she stops by and brings Cooper to meet everybody in Room 7!

Spring Break!

We said good-bye to Ms. Janz today. She is one of the Educational Assistants in our room, and she won't be back after Spring Break, as she'll be staying home to take care of her new baby. The baby is scheduled to arrive next week...and we have all guessed what day the baby might arrive..... 4 people guessed today.... so we'll see!

For Project 11 today, we learned about the Golden Rule--- Treat other people how you want to be treated. One of our activities was to share compliments about each other, so we took turns doing that until everyone had a chance to share a compliment about someone in the room.

This girl made the number 101 out of blocks, and was able to tell me what number she made!

This fellow wanted everyone on the blog to see the "lava monster" that he made.

Fancy Day today

Write Around the Room time

Here is the number 12. What comes...before and after?  (didn't the kids do a great job printing these numbers so neatly?)

Here is the number 15. Now print the numbers that come before and after

Circus

Crazy Hair Day...

We had some visitors from the nearby middle school stop by this morning. Twelve students in the Grade 6 band program stopped by to teach us about band instruments and play a few selections for us.

One of the band students was an alumni member of Room 7... and his little sister is now in Room 7! She was excited to see her brother play the trumpet!

Library Day today. Please return all library books on or before next Day 4.(April 4th)

The Circus came to town!  Well, actually....it came to Stevenson a while ago. Today some of the kids wanted to showcase what they have been working on. So we went down to the gym again to see the show!!!

Colour wheel & Brown Bear

We painted a colour wheel today, using watercolour paints. It had the primary colours and secondary colours.

We did an activity about "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" The class was great at retelling the story. We also made a similar version of this story.

Leprechaun Fun!

Those silly leprechauns left us some clues that they had visited our classroom yesterday -- on St. Patrick's Day!  They even threw our shoes out of our lockers, and we had to find them scattered around the classroom! They also left us some magic powder and a note to go with it!  We had to mix the magic powder with the green milk, and then say the magic words... and then we had a special leprechaun treat!  Most kids enjoyed it!  Some kids thought it tasted like.... ice cream, yogurt, cucumbers, pudding. (Mrs. Grant thought it tasted like pudding.. wink, wink!)

Open House night

"Snap IT!" .... The kids enjoy playing this game.... where we snap a tower of blocks into 2 parts..... and others have to guess how many blocks in the second part, after seeing how many in the first set of blocks (This is known as "part-part-whole). We are able to make math stories and sentences from these blocks. For example.... If we start with 5 blocks, and you show me 2, then I know you have 3 hiding in your other hand. And.....2 + 3 = 5, and if we switch the hands holding them, then 3 + 2 = 5

Checking out the colour mixing paddles and bottles....

Sharing Time... hard "G" sound--- G is for....

It was great to see almost all of the Room 7 families at the Open House tonight!!  (I even had a couple of students that were in our class in September, -but got moved to the new K class in November- stop by for a hug and to say hello!  Made my heart smile, for sure!)
The kids of Room 7 were very excited earlier in the day.... anticipating their families coming to school... and I could see and hear how proud they were to show you all about their learning in Kindergarten!  It is so wonderful when children are able to see the interest their parents have in their school life, and that their parents are so proud of their efforts and accomplishments!  Next week, we will be looking at the Favourite Colour Graph that your families helped contribute to. Lots of math opportunities there! Thank you very much for adding your name to our graph!
Have a great weekend!!
One more week until Spring Break!!
