Star of the Week

Our Star of the Week did a great job presenting her poster this afternoon!

This morning we did something different, called  "Kindergarten Focus Centres"  or K.F.C.  We divided our class into 4 groups, and we had 4 teachers.... 1 teacher per group. Each teacher planned a specific activity for the group, and we rotated through all 4 groups of kids,  so each group had a chance to participate in all 4 activities!

• and Mrs. Grant, Kindergarten teacher!

     
We also had a visit from the Indigenous Educator for SJASD. This was her first visit to our  room, and she took the opportunity to introduce herself to our class and tell everyone a little about herself and her family.

LOTS OF KIDS are coming home with very wet clothes in their backpacks today from playing outside at recess. Please be sure to send some clean/dry clothes to have in our "extra clothes" bags at school. Thanks!

Terry Fox Run

Today we did the "Terry Fox Run" and learned a little about Terry Fox. Thanks to everyone who sent in some money to support the Terry Fox Foundation.


We have been talking about "fall". Today we did a cut and paste, and matched numbers on the acorns. We have been learning about how to hold/use scissors and how to use glue, too.

We took turns sharing the pen, as we did a co-operative activity - and we each added one feature to our "person". Here's a few pics of the process....
 
 
We moved and put together all these shapes to create "MATMAN" .  Ta-da!!!

We will be doing a Terry Fox Run tomorrow during the period before lunch. Everyone is encouraged to bring in a "Toonie" for Terry and help support the foundation in cancer research.

Star of the Week!

Today we introduced our first "Star of the Week". He presented his poster to the class, and showed us his photos. 

As part of our Social Studies, we will continue doing this through out the school year until everyone has had a turn! 
(When your child brings home a big envelope in his/her bag, it will be your child's turn to be our "Star" for the week,)
  
We have been talking about feelings this week. Today we read a book about what makes us happy!
       
How many days of school?  Well..we bundled up the first group of 10 days... so now we don't have to count them everyday. We can count on!   We say 10..11...12....13 !

Today we sat in a circle and shared our "Weekend News". We took turns speaking by passing a little red and white ball around. The speaker was the person who was holding the ball. Everyone else demonstrated their good listening skills by listening to the person holding the ball!  Then we did an activity where we drew a picture of our weekend news and wrote a story about what we had talked about!

Mrs. Grant baked some cupcakes to share with everyone in our class!

• Does anyone have a few extra plastic bags they could donate to our classroom? We are out!  and they come in handy to send home wet/dirty clothes! With this rainy weather, we have had a lot of kids changing clothes after recess. IF you have any extras, please send them our way!  (And don't forget to replace any extra clothes that your child may have needed to change into!)
• Reminder:  Library day is next Tuesday. Please return all library books by then. Thanks!
• Terry Fox Run will be next Thursday. 
• Scholastic Book orders are being sent home today. If you are interested in ordering any books, please return your order on or before Sept. 27th. You can also order online -if you prefer.
