100 years old?

When we celebrated 100 days of school, we wondered how we might look when we were 100 years old. We checked out the "AgingBooth" app and after taking a photo of each person, it "aged" us. We decided we would like to share these pics on the blog.
Can you recognize these much older little men and women from Room 7 :)

This is the "AGINGBOOTH" app that we used. (it is a free download)

Guest Reader

One of our friend's mom came in to read to our class today. She read us a couple books by Robert Munsch -- and we enjoyed listening to both of them. They were funny! (Of course Mrs. Grant was happy to hold the little baby brother while his mom read to our class!)

Star of the Week

Our Star of the Week.... told us all about himself!  We also did a shared writing activity that was all about him... and we had fun being word detectives and finding the different words in the story!
Thank you to this parent for coming in to read to our class this morning. The boys and girls in room 7 LOVE books by Mo Willems about piggy and elephant. Thank you for reading this one to us. We hadn't read that one!

We have been exploring colour combinations and what happens when colours get mixed with each other. These kids were using the colour paddles and holding them up to the light to see how the colours changed when they were placed together.

These fellows wanted to play a game of Crazy 8 today!
After Mr. W. read us an interesting story in the library, the boys and girls got to choose a book to read and then sign out to take home for a week.

Guest Readers

Today we were very lucky to have 4 guest readers in our class. First Mrs. M. joined us this morning to read one of the favourite books in her family called "Grumpy Cat". We all really enjoyed the story, too! It was so nice for us to have a parent read to the class. Thank you to her for joining us. Come again!
We also had 3 students from George Waters Middle School Grade 6 class come to our school to read to us for I LOVE TO READ month. They read two stories to us and had us doing some actions to the story, too! Mrs. Grant was so happy to see that two of her former K students still loved to read and shared their passion for books with us in Room 7!
Sharing time .... T is for "tights" and "Transformer T-shirt"
NOTE FOR NEXT WEEK:  Wednesday is "Snuggle Up and Read day". Students are welcome to wear their p.j.'s to school!

Have a good weekend!  Stay warm!

BOOK SWAP

Friday is BOOK SWAP Day. All students, from all classes, are invited to bring in a book or 2 or 3 that they would like to SWAP/EXCHANGE from among all the other books brought in.

I LOVE TO READ month

Kids in the Know.

The Resource Teacher, Mrs. Macdonell, visited our classroom again. Today she talked to the class about identifying and labelling their body parts. It is important for children to identify parts of the body that are private versus parts of the body that are not. For more information on Kids In the Know - click here.
Our Grade One friends stopped by our classroom today as they paraded around the school celebrating  and welcoming in the Chinese New Year. They had puppets and noise makers and they seemed very excited to be in a parade.

Open House Tonight

Today we counted from 1 - 100 as we took 100 licks of a heart shaped lollipop. We were surprised that we still had lots left even after 100 licks!  (this was one of our 100 day activities that we didn't get done last Friday on 100 day!)
              SHARING TIME

Tonight is Kindergarten Open House night. This is an informational evening for parents who have children who turn five years old by December 31, 2015. If you have a child starting Kindergarten in September, please come to the school at 7:00PM.  (Please pass along this message to any neighbours or friends who have children of Kindergarten age - for the fall 2015.)

All About Nine

The boys and girls in Room 7 get so excited when we start talking about things we know about the different numbers. Today we brainstormed what we know about the number 9!

Our Star of the Week!!
We have been talking about primary colours. Last week we made a graph to tell each other which colour is our favourite primary colour. We could read the graph to see that blue was the most popular colour!

100 day AND Valentine's Day

We are 100 days smarter!!  Today was our 100th day of Kindergarten!
Building with 100 plastic cups
Every day we add one popsicle stick to a container to help us keep track of how many days we have come to school. We have been patiently been awaiting the arrival of the 100th day!! We wanted to mark it on our chart.
Counting our 100 things that we brought to school.
We counted 100 fingers. We figured out we needed a group of 10 friends to do this. We  counted the fingers by ones and tens.
Time to check out our Valentine cards from our classmates.

Wishing you all a love-ly Valentine's day!!

All About Eight

Some things we know about the number 8.

Today we had a guest reader. She read us a funny story about a wide mouthed frog. We loved her pop up book!  We are looking for more guest readers... and would love it for some of our parents to come read to us!  Please let Mrs. Grant know if you are interested in reading to our class.
