We had our final assembly this morning. Some awards were handed out and we also said good-bye to those students in Grade 5 who will be moving to middle school in September.

Enjoying an ice cream sandwich outside after the assembly.. compliments of the Parent Council. Thank you!!!

We had done a dramatic theme centre on camping earlier this month, and we wanted to end it with this question….

Then we wanted to try it…..  no real campfires allowed in school…..so with a little imagination (and the help of the oven -- or microwave would work, too!)… we sample a s'more

and every camping trip is more complete with a glow stick when it gets dark!!!

Thanks for reading our blog, ….
and thanks to the parents for their support,…. and thanks to everyone who took a moment to leave us a comment.
Have a great summer everyone!!   Grade One here they come!!!!

Summer Reading Gift & Jelly bean day

What a great day!!  Today, every student in the school got to choose some brand new books to take home and enjoy at  home over the summer. The school has partnered with "First Book Canada" to purchase books for every student. Research shows that students who do not read daily over the summer can lose skills they have learned during the past school year. This is referred to as the "summer slide". We don't want that to happen to Stevenson Students.  Kindergarten students are off to a good start at reading…. and we want that to carry over into their daily life and into Grade One!!
Students are encouraged to read, and read lots! Check out the local library -- you can borrow books for free!  Have a book exchange with your neighbour or friends. Re-read your favourite books. In the fall, our school will be setting out a student book exchange, where students can "BOGO" -- bring one, get one!

This afternoon, we spent our time going around to different stations set up inside and outside the school. There were 35 stations in all!  At the end of the day, we all got a bag of jellybeans in celebration of completing all the stations - or as many stations as we could.

Today was the last day that we got together with our Room 12 Reading Buddies. We had hoped to go outside and enjoy a freezie with our buddies, but just at Reading Buddy time, it started raining!! So we went to the Life Skills Room and enjoyed our freezies there.

Friday fun

The boys and girls in Room 7 are becoming quite good little readers!  Here we are practicing our reading skills today.  Reading to ourself and reading to others…..

Today we had an assembly to meet with the storyteller named Jamie Olivero, who visited each classroom earlier in the term. Each class had to bring something that was special to their class. We took a picture frame with a photo of our class in it. We thought it was special because it was like we are a family -- the family from Room 7!!

A little reflection about something fun that we did at school this week. (independent writing)

….and every once in a while you need a Brain Break!!!  Today we danced to a couple songs from…..GoNoodle

Have a good weekend everyone!   Four more school days to go!!!!!!
