Write Around the Room & Fall colours

We made some colourful fall trees by stamping paint onto a picture of a tree!

Discovery Time....

We were going to go outside to do some leaf rubbings, but with this wet, rainy day, we didn't want our paper to get wet ....so we stayed inside to try it.
Today we did our first "Write Around the Room". Everyone had to be word detectives and look for words that are displayed around our room. Have your child try this at home, too!  All your child needs is a piece of paper and any writing tool! Then he/she walks around the room/house and writes down any word he/she sees. (It doesn't matter right now if your child can read the word, right now we are working on identifying and copying letters/words and trying to remember to hold our writing tools correctly!)

I'm posting this edited photo.... we have 14 students in our class, and one name paper wasn't hung up when  I snapped the photo yesterday!

Sharing time... something that is RED. Everyone was able to tell about their item and ask the audience for questions!

Word art

Today we used the little muscles in our fingers to rip up construction paper into little pieces. This will help strengthen our fine motor skills, which we need for writing. Then we glued the little pieces onto an outline of our name! We made colourful word art!
Mrs. Havixbeck. gym teacher, was in our classroom this morning. She read us a story, and talked about how we are all special in our own way. Then we had to draw pictures to represent how we are special! (This is part of the "Project 11" program.)
Centre Time....

We started the regular rotation of our SHARING TIME today. These kids brought something red to show and tell us about. Everyone else used their good listening skills to be a good audience. Then after the speaker was finished talking about his item, the audience got a chance to ask questions. (We will be working on the difference between telling the speaker something and asking the speaker a question.)

Library Day

This week our Discovery Bins include items such as.... play doh, pipe cleaners, pony beads, and lots of imagination!  When we put the beads onto the pipe cleaner, we are strengthening the little muscles in our fingers - which we need to use for writing! Some kids made patterns, some kids made designs, some built towers, and everyone had fun with their play doh!

Today was our first "Library Day". Unfortunately the library is still closed to students; but fortunately, Mr. Wesselius (Librarian) brought some books to our room! Mr. Wesselius also had a special library bag for each of us (made specially for each Kinder kid by his mom!). Each student got to choose a book from a selection of library books  to take home and borrow for a few days. Our library day is Day 6. Please have your child return his/her library book - in the bag- on or before the next Day 6.

Check out our new book bags!
In outdoor music class today, one of the activities was dancing to the Kinder-polka!

I love when I get emails/notes from parents that tell me about what their children are sharing at home in regards to what they are learning at school!

Here is an email I received this weekend... (shared with permission of the parent)

"I just wanted to say how happy it makes me to hear ***  telling me about sounds and syllables all day long! "I got a new Pokeball - p-p-p-Pokeball. That starts with P!" "Can I have some apple juice? Ap-ple-juice. That has three syllables!" She's singing songs from music class, too. 🙂"

Matman

We continue to work on building matman -- and making our drawings have all the main parts!  We don't want our legs coming out of our head when we draw pictures of ourselves!!  That would be silly! And we must remember to include eyes, nose, mouth when we draw a head!
Today we practiced drawing a picture of ourself doing an activity at school.

Ms. Rempel sent me some pictures from music class yesterday. The kids were using paper to create a drum sound!  It was the first time they had music inside the music room. They have been having music outside up until yesterday.

Have a great weekend!!

Trees

We are learning to read our own names, and those of our classmates. Every morning we sign in on the Smart Board, by finding our name!
This group did a great job sharing their items in their "All About Me" bags!
Everyone is bringing a Sharing Schedule home today. We are looking forward to having everyone share again next week!
The Kindergarten Science curriculum includes learning about trees. We have been learning about the parts of a tree, and the changes in a tree during fall. Today the kids had fun playing outside with some logs, and even checking out the bark of the tree.  (Ask your child to tell you about the parts of the tree, including the.... trunk, roots, bark, branches, crown)

Sharing time

We started our Sharing Time today. These 5 students each shared the items in their "All About Me" bags today, and picked one item to have in our photo! They all did an excellent job telling about the items in their bags!!  Their classmates enjoyed learning about some of their friends' favourite things!
We have been having our morning Story Time outside. We have found lots of good places to read a book! Hopefully the weather cooperates for a little while longer!
Our helper was spinning the red die on the Smart Board, to find 4 dots, to match the number on the blue die.
We did a cut and paste activity today. We had to cut out the sets of apples, to match to the number on the trees!
We welcomed a new friend to our classroom today. We now have 14 students in our class!

First day of fall

What a beautiful "first day of fall" day to take our blankets and books outside to read!

Fall leaf colours and patterns

Thank you to the people who have left us comments over the past couple weeks.
The kids enjoy looking at the photos of themselves, and deciding what to say in our replies.
(Please note, if you write a comment, it won't be posted until I have a chance to read it and allow it to be published. This helps keep any Spam off the blog. Thanks!  And keep those comments coming!)
