Lockdown

Today our school practiced a LOCKDOWN.  The lockdown was called just before the end of  lunch recess. Because the students were already outside, they were directed to go to a safe designated location just north of the school playground. Everyone moved to the north side of Bord-Aire Community Centre and waited until we were informed it was "safe" to return to school. (Earlier in the year we practiced a lockdown inside the school, too).

After the lockdown, we walked back to school and stopped in front to talk about our "Little Free Library". You are all invited to stop by and take a book or two home to read. When you are done with it, pass the book(s) along to someone else, or return the book(s) to this library. Then take another book or two home to enjoy. Repeat. You can never read too many books. And one of the best way to learn to read is to listen to reading when you are a beginning reader, and then to practice reading!!

"Write Around the Room" time... (some kids were asking a couple days ago if we could do this activity.... and another student was overheard today saying "I LOVE doing write around the room!)

This morning, all the classes participated in an hour of math games. We had four students from the Grade 4/5 class come to our classroom and lead us in some math games. Some of the games involved solving number sentences, such as.... 4+3, 5+1, 2+2, 10-1. Another game had everyone passing a ball a certain number of times. There was also a "give a high-5" game, too. The kids really enjoyed the games. Ask your child to tell you all about it.

foil eggs

Our Star of the Week....

We started an activity, that involved using Q-tips to "decorate" and paint the foil egg shapes.

Making patterns on the Smart Board

Playing slide puzzles on the Smart Board

Reading in our environment.... This morning, one of the girls noticed the word on this boy's shirt, and she said.... " If we take the V off that word, it will spell ROOM!"  I love it (even if the word is spelled with one less /o/!!

We have accumulated these things in our room. I think a few of the items might have fell out of some people's extra clothes bag, and some socks that never made it into backpacks when they got changed. No names, and no one wants to claim them. If any of these items look like they belong to your child, please let me know.

Bunny Art

Yesterday we learned how to draw a bunny head. Today we used watercolours to paint a background for the bunny.

Some kids wanted a really challenging number to do our "what comes before and after" activity.  So Mrs. Grant wrote the number 97 on a middle line... and the students did the rest! WOW!!

Star of the Week

Our Star of the Week told us all about herself today. Tomorrow we will do a shared writing activity and write a story all about her!

59 days and counting!

From the start of the school year, we have been counting one popsicle stick per day. After each set of ten days, we bundled the group of ten sticks to make it easier to count. When we got to ten bundles, we bundled them up to make one bundle of 100! We continued to count one more popsicle stick a day up until Spring Break!  TODAY..... we started something different. We figured out that we had 60 days left of Kindergarten until summer holiday.  So we took one out for today, since we were already at school. Now we have 59 days left of Kindergarten. We will continue to count backwards, one stick at a time!

Count the small Easter things. How many? (10) Now some are hiding. There are 7 left. Guess how many are hiding under the basket?

We had ten. Now there are only 3 left. How many are hiding under the basket?

Look how tall I am?
