Making music!

Today we did a shared writing activity and wrote a chart story all about our Star of the Week. The students are doing a great job helping Mrs. Grant spell some of the common words, and they are becoming quite the detectives finding words in the story after we have finished writing it!  Our Star did a great job sharing her poster on Monday!

The class got a chance to play some instruments in music class today.

Colour experiment

We did a colour experiment today. We put some water and food colouring in each of 3 jars... 1 primary colour per jar. Then we put an empty jar in between each primary colour jar. We added a strip of paper towel that went into each connecting jar.... and we were amazed at what happened! .....some of the primary colours went into the empty jars, and the colours got mixed - to make secondary colours! It is like the coloured water just crawled up the paper towel and went in to the empty jars!

Sorting different colours of paper... different shades and tints

New sharing schedule went home today! Please keep it in a safe place for future reference.

A note from your child....
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to play outside at recess. Touques and mittens are still a must!  Check the weather forecast in the morning, and don't forget about the windchill!
Please be sure your child has extra socks and pants at school, too.

Primary colours

We have been learning about primary and secondary colours. Here is a colour wheel collage we made by cutting coloured paper out of magazines.

We also made a graph of our favourite primary colours. Looks like it is a tie between red and blue! We were missing 2 kids today, so we will add their favourites to the graph next week. That may change the results.

Library Day today....

Ms. Janzen read us a really funny story today!

Guest readers

We had a visit from a Constable with the Winnipeg Police Service this morning. She is our School Resource Officer. She came to read to our class, and had a few minutes for questions, too. "Do you put people in jail?" was one of the questions. She talked to the class about the need for rules, and being responsible for our own actions. She asked about rules at school and what happens at school if we don’t follow the rules. Time out, the kids said. She said there are rules to follow for everything and everywhere (i.e. at home, at school, driving on the road, etc.) and when someone breaks a rule, they need a consequence (ie. ticket for speeding, go to jail, etc.) so they can be responsible for their own actions.
Aside from that, she read the class a really funny story - about a police officer and, what else,....donuts!

We had another guest reader this afternoon. Mrs. Malcolm is a retired school teacher. She used to teach Kindergarten in Room 8, several years ago. She came and read us a story!

The class was so excited to see the March calendar this week. We found St. Patrick's Day on the calendar, and other important dates worth noting. One of the fun smart board activities was putting gold coins by the shamrock.

Mrs. Grant printed the number 7 on the middle line... then the class had to figure out what came "before" and "after" 7

Students are really having a lot of fun designing different kinds of tracks to make the cars move!
