Happy Halloween!
We learned how to draw pumpkins the other day. Today we wanted to paint the pumpkin pictures that we each drew - but we only had red and yellow paint! So.... we mixed the 2 colours, and were happy to see that they turned into orange! A great colour for a pumpkin!
a couple of witches!

Pumpkins
Today we used one of our pumpkin as a geoboard! We used thumb tacks and rubber bands to create shapes! We took measurements with a variety of measuring tools!
We used our other pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern! First we had to clean it out!!
Once the kids finished cleaning out the pumpkin, and pulling out all the pumpkin seeds, then Miss Janz, our Educational Assistant (EA). carved the face into the jack-o-lantern! Mrs. Grant cooked the pumpkin seeds (adding a little oil and salt), and lots of the kids enjoyed eating the pumpkin seeds!

A Star and a Ghost
This week's "Star of the Week" did a great job sharing her "All About Me" poster. She had a cute little unicorn, too!
We put our cutting skills to the test today, by cutting carefully on all the lines to make a ghost decoration. If you stayed on the line, you ended up with a ghost with a really long tail!
ABC's and puzzles... what a great combination!
We will be having our Halloween party on Wednesday afternoon. Students are welcome to wear their costume to school if they wish. Otherwise, if your child wants to dress up, please send the costume in a bag labelled with your child's name. (this bag can be put in their backpack if it will fit.) We will be getting our costumes on around 1pm. Then at 1:30 there will be a costume parade in the gym. Parents are welcome to come see the parade!

KFC
Today we tried something new in Kindergarten. We are calling it "K.F.C." = Kindergarten Focus Centres. We mixed up all the kids from both Kindergarten classes into groups of 4-5 kids. There were 10 centres with a teacher running each centre and each centre had a different focus. The groups spent about 5 minutes at each centre and rotated through every centre. Lots of learning opportunities!! We were excited to include teachers from outside our school. Some of the support came from our Speech-Language Pathologist, the Occupational Therapist, the "English as an Additional Language" teacher, the Early Literacy Support Teacher, a teacher from the Behaviour Team, Resource Teacher, and of course the Kindergarten teachers! Topics included.... rhyming, numeracy, nursery rhymes, mat man, fine motor work, big muscle work, emotions, vocabulary development, and more!!
We will be doing K.F.C. every Day 2 for the next 9 weeks! Your child will not want to miss this!
We had library class today. Everyone who had returned their last book was able to sign out a new book today. Please remember to return all library books by next day 2.

Halloween activities
Flannel board activity
Matching print.. halloween words to halloween print
This young man retold the story of 3 of our poems, by using Halloween erasers to represent his story! What a terrific idea he had. He did such an awesome job!
Today we used the little muscles in our fingers and practiced cutting out 5 little pumpkins, and put them on a gate that we each drew. We had to put the pumpkins in sequential order of smallest to largest! Ask your child to tell you the story of the "5 little pumpkin sitting on the gate!"
Ta-da!!!
