At the end of every week, we talk about some of the hi-lites of our week at school. Then every student draws a picture and writes a "story" to take home and share with his/her family. Students are encouraged to make the pictures match the story, write down the sounds they hear in words and/or the words they may know, add details to the picture, and make their pictures colourful. (This student ran out of time and didn't get a chance to finish colouring her picture.) This week everyone talked about the birthday party centre.
We call this activity "This Week At School" or T.W.A.S.
Another activity we did today involved rolling a die, trying to quickly identify the number of dots-without having to actually count the dots, then stamping the corresponding number on a bear paper. (This skill of quickly identifying the number of objects in groups- such as for dots on dice - also used on dominoes and cards- is called "subitizing".)

We also had to fill in the missing letters on the bears. |
