Star of the week

Our shining Star of the week did an awesome job telling us all about herself. We also wrote a story all about her!

Yellow is the colour we are sharing this week. Confidence in public speaking continues to grow. Good job everyone!
We did some puzzle making today. It was quite challenging for some kids. You might want to put puzzles on your Christmas shopping list!

We learned the story of the 5 little pumpkins, then sequenced our own pumpkins!

Picture Day

Everyone brought their best smile for School Picture Day!

We stopped to take a photo of our class today. (Unfortunately we were missing 2 students.)

We got a little silly, too!

Check out this Halloween  pattern!

.... and here's a pattern, too!

Sharing theme for this week..... Bring something yellow to show and tell us about.

Buddies today

We brought something green to Show and Tell our friends all about.   We are practicing our public speaking skills.  (one little guy even wore his green shirt!)

Today we read with our Grade 2/3 Reading Buddies......

....and we also had 2 fire drills this afternoon. While we were outside, we noticed that the trees have some bare branches, and the leaves were even falling off of the trees while we were outside!!

Baby Jacob

Today was "WALK TO SCHOOL DAY".  ALL Staff and students were encouraged to meet at the nearby Football Field- a few blocks down from the school- and we all walked to school together! Some Grade 5 students carried our school banner. It was a beautiful morning to walk to school!

It was great to have some parents join us on our walk, too! Thank you for walking with us!
The school division police personnel also joined us, and other officers were on hand to stop traffic at the busy intersection we had to cross.

Here we are -- back at the school. All students who did the group walk to school met up with all the kids who came straight to school.

THE other exciting event of our day was the highly anticipated arrival of ...... baby Jacob!  He and his mom are helping us out this year with the ROOTS OF EMPATHY program.

Baby Jacob

Baby Jacob is taller than the Roots of Empathy doll.

He is about 8 blocks long (or tall) right now. We will measure him again later in the year to see how much he has grown.

Our class with Mrs. Zinn and her baby, Jacob

We each got a turn to tickle his toes as we sang a HELLO song, and then later, a GOOD-BYE song to him.

Writing

We did a shared writing activity today. We wrote a story that was all about our Star of the Week. Not only is it fun to write a story about one of our classmates, but we are learning to  match letters to sounds, and we already know how to spell some words! We also talk about punctuation, spaces between words, and printing from left to right and top to bottom. We count words in a sentence and notice words that are similar.  There is a LOT happening in one group writing activity!!!

Today we had 2 fire drill practices. We did a terrific job leaving the school quickly, quietly, and safely. It was a beautiful fall afternoon to be outside for a few minutes.

These girls had lots to tell us about for the GREEN things that they brought for Sharing Time.

.....and G is for Green.   This is from the Starfall website. Check it out at home, too!

REMINDER:  PARENT COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT in the school library at  6pm.  PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND.
