Our Name Art
We had a discussion about Terry Fox and looked at a few pictures of him. We learned why we are doing the Terry Fox run. Thanks to everyone who sent in money to be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. I will let you know how much money our school raised once the final numbers are in!

Leaf Rubbings/Bark Rubbings
We have been learning about changes to trees in the fall, the parts of a tree, and the colourful leaves in fall. This afternoon we went outside and did some leaf rubbings. The kids thought it was so "magical" to see a leaf shape appear on their papers!
We learned about the "Bark" on the tree and did some "bark rubbings", too!
Then we sang one of our songs about raking leaves!!! Lots of fun!

Math Language
Everyone in the class has been assessed on a variety of math skills this month. This includes the kids knowledge of....
This young man was doing a terrific job copying numbers onto the White Board!
Today we had a couple fire drills for everyone in the building! Everyone did a great job remembering where our designated meeting spot was outside.
Yesterday we learned about this app called "Welcome to Kindergarten" and today we had a chance to try it out on the iPads. If you haven't already tried it.....you can download it now for free in the App Store for iOS devices, or in the Google Play store for the Android version. This free app was named as one of iTunes Top 50 Early Learning apps in May.

Name Art
We are learning about the letters in our names!! We are becoming more aware of the shape of the letters -- are there straight lines or curved lines? and what is the order of the letters to spell our names? How many letters are in our name? and how many parts (syllables) are in our name? We practice clapping and touching our head/shoulder/waist to count the parts in our name! (we also create rhyming words with our names, by changing the first sound in the name).
We practiced using our fine motor skills by ripping construction paper into little pieces and gluing them onto the outline of our names!!
We rolled a die, then had to find that many balls on the Rekenrek. We also used the iPads to count sets of numbers up to ten. We used an app called....."Number Rack".... which had something similar to the Rekenrek in our classroom.
Using various shaped pattern blocks to form letters
We traced our forearm and fingers to make a tree trunk with branches. Then we painted the trunk and branches brown. After that dried, we used fall colours to paint leaves on the tree.
