Roots of Empathy

Baby Jacob came for a visit today. We noticed he can do some new things since he was last here.

• he communicates:  whether or not he likes his snack…. when he is full or doesn't want any more
• his mom stays close by to make sure he stays safe --- doesn't choke, doesn't fall out of his chair

Community Walk

We went for a "Wednesday Walk" on this chilly spring day. (The temperature was +5 Celsius, but with the windchill it felt like +2 C. ) No matter what, everyone had fun at the stop at the park and enjoyed playing there.  Along the way we talked about watching for traffic in order to cross the road safely, and we noticed the name of the street we were on.

Also today…..

We practiced a lockdown today. We need to know what to do in case of an emergency where there is an intruder or an unsafe situation in the school. We had to practice being very quiet with the lights off and the door locked.

Communication

Mrs. Macdonell talked to us about how we "communicate" to others. Some ways we can communicate include......with our voice, actions, gestures, attitude, and sign language. She even taught us a few signs and showed us how to sign the alphabet! When baby Jacob comes to visit us, he communicates the best way he knows how!

You'll find the photos there! Our helper of the day takes a photo and types in what he/she wants to say about the photo!

A day of different bridges………

Today we made a little bridge with some blocks and paper. We wanted to see how strong the bridge was and how many pennies it could hold. Our experiment showed that a flat piece of paper was not very strong at all. Our bridge sunk down!  BUT...when we folded the paper ...it got very strong! We counted 100 pennies..and it was still so strong! No sign of sinking down! Folded paper really was stronger than just plain paper! (We also checked out some cardboard and noticed the folds inside the layers of cardboard!)

Next we read a story about another bridge --- that had a TROLL living under it!  We read the "Three Billy Goats Gruff"…. and then acted out our own version of the tale.  As one student said …"That was awesome!"

Happy Mother's Day

Here's the special surprise we made for our moms for Mother's Day!  We hope they like them.  They  were made with our own little fingerprints! There is a little seed that will grow with some TLC, just like our mother's give to us!!

It's Music Monday!!!

Today was MUSIC MONDAY.  Our whole school participated in Music Monday by singing the Music Monday song outside. We all sang together!!

Our Kindergarten class now has an INSTAGRAM account!  We hope to post at least one photo every school day. The helper of the day will be in charge of taking a photo and typing a short note about the photo, and we may add other photos along the way, too!

  This month we are participating in a photo challenge using Instagram … #eduphotoadaymay…...  so our photos will be geared towards that challenge. There are other classes participating in the same challenge, too!  This is what we'll be snapping photos of this month…..

Monday, May 5th is known as Music Monday across Canada. There will be a short assembly (about 10 minutes) right after students arrive at school.  All students will join together to sing the Music Monday song.
