Tree drawings

We had a visitor today, as part of the SJASD "The Integrated Arts" program. Mrs. Claudia Evans-Menard (the artist) is going to do a painting project with us. Today we learned how to draw a couple different types of trees. We practiced on white paper, then did our "good" tree drawing on the black paper. Tomorrow we will be painting!

For the past few weeks, every classroom has been provided with a fruit basket (with bananas, apples, and oranges) for any students who needs an extra snack. Today we were also given some snap peas. Everyone who tried them, liked them!

Catch the leaves!

There were a lot of giggles and laughter when we played a game where the leaves blew out of Winnie the Pooh's tree and the kids had to try and catch them!

  
 


 



  
Our second visit from Mrs. Leigh-Anne Kehler , a storyteller. Today she talked about courage, and how the bear got his short tail.

A Star, a Storyteller, and a Juggler

 
Our "Star of the Week" did a wonderful job telling us all about herself and sharing her "All About Me Robot" poster.

This morning, we had a visitor as part of "The Integrated Arts" program. Mrs. Leigh-Anne Kehler will be coming to our class three times this week. We are exploring the "Seven Teachings" and the animals associated with it through drama and play. 
       Today we learned that beaver showed WISDOM when he built a lodge to prepare for the rain. To make the connection, Mrs. Kehler asked the kids how they get ready for school?
       She also told us the story of the lone wolf who learned HUMILITY when he couldn't make it on his own so he returned to his pack. From this we learned we need each other to be successful.

The Integrated Arts

Today we had a guest artist as part of the school division's "The Integrated Arts" program. Our visitor, Laura Kolisnyk, has many theatre, dance, and musical credits to her name. Today she talked to us about acting on stage, and had us moving our bodies to represent different animals, as well as encouraging us to use our imaginations. We also talked about "personal space" and "general space".

Weekend news

Every Monday, we develop our listening and speaking skills as we share what we have done on the weekend. We also like to write about our weekend. Here's what 3 of our students were up to this weekend…. check it out!!

(Note: Kindergarten writing at this time of year will vary according to the skills of the student. Some of the skills we are looking for include:….letters that match the sounds they hear in words, using some sight words, leaving a "finger space" between words, leaving a line space, putting something at the end of our sentence (like a period or exclamation mark), printing our letters neatly and on the line……)

   I went to McDonald's!   I went to church!   It was rainy!  I played with my sister's iPad.

Jamie Oliviero was back today as he entertained us with his storytelling and taught us about a sense of community and getting along with others. We continue to work at co-operating and learning to live/work/play together peacefully in our community.
