Mitten Math

Today our Star of the Week shared her poster and showed us some photos. We enjoyed reading her favourite book "Little Miss Whoops!"

We did some mitten activities today. 
 Everyone got their mittens or gloves from their locker. 

• We sorted them into groups -- gloves vs. mittens vs. bare hands. We did a tally chart to keep track of each group. We had more mittens than gloves in our classroom. (And one person came to school with bare hands.)
• One game was called "Guess My Rule". We had to guess why some mittens were chosen to go in the hoola hoop and some were not. 
• We read the books "The Mitten" by Alvin Tresselt and "The Missing Mitten Mystery" by Steven Kellogg. (Yesterday we read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett.)
• We did some mitten activities on the Smart  Board.

    Two people remembered to bring something for Sharing today. Good job, girls!

iPads

Today everyone got a chance to use our class iPads. Everyone was excited and had fun playing an alphabet Bingo game. Comments were:

-- We liked the game.

-- The game is cool!

-- We liked the iPad.

-- We loved the Bingo game.

House Groups

Today was a "House Group Day". Everyone from Grade K-5 met in their multi-grade group to play for about 25 minutes. The purpose of house groups this year include (among other things)….. giving everyone the opportunity to interact and build relationships with children from all other grades, work on social skills, sharing, communication and language skills, teamwork, confidence, etc. Each group has about 14-16 students in it and meets with a teacher leader.

Emotions

Today Mrs. Macdonnel (the Resource Teacher) visited our room. She read us a story, and we talked about how parents help their children. We learned about different kinds of emotions. We talked about how sometimes we can make choices to be frustrated and grumpy, or decide to move on to something else that keeps us in a "happy place".

Looking for treasures hiding in the "snow bin".  "I spy……"

Today we had a visit from some dancers from Lincoln School. They helped promote a new fundraiser that our school is participating in this month.  The fundraiser will support the Heart and Stroke Foundation. All classes will have the opportunity to participate in some kind of dance activity this month. Students are encouraged to bring in pledges to support this fundraiser. Everyone will be receiving a t-shirt for participating. There are some awesome prizes available for fundraisers as well. Check out the package of info. coming home today!
