Visit to the Fire Station

Our visit to the Fire Station.

This morning, Wednesday, we walked to Fire Station #11. We met some really nice firemen and they showed us the firetrucks. It was an eventful visit. There were 3 trucks there when we first arrived. One truck was just pulling out. First we went inside and watched a video about Sparky the firedog and fire safety. Fireman Phil told us about calling 911 in an emergency. He also told us we should know our address and our own phone number. Then we went out and took a look at the  2 firetrucks that were still there. They opened up the doors and showed us the supplies and equipment behind the doors. One truck had 3 ladders and the other truck had 7 ladders!  We also got to climb into the firetruck and pretend we were driving. That was a lot of fun! Oh-oh… the fire alarm went off and one of the trucks had to leave… so we had to wait in a safe place in front of the building while the truck pulled out!  We did like watching the trucks leave and putting their sirens on!  We noticed the firemen got their uniforms on VERY quickly. Then back we went in to look at the other firetruck that was left. However, within 5 minutes, THIS truck had to respond to an alarm, too -- but the fireman said they would probably be back soon. NO worries, though, because as we looked at the empty garage, the first firetruck that was leaving as we arrived, was just arriving back at the station.  So those fireman finished telling us about the firetrucks, then, they had Mrs. Grant dress up in a fireman uniform!  After that, we each got to take a turn spraying water out of the water hose and knocking over some water jugs.

We had an awesome time with the friendly neighbourhood fire men!  Thank you to all the Fire Men at Station Number 11!!

                                               

Concert and Fire House

We got to take a tour through the  "Fire House" today. We learned about safe and unsafe fires, and what to do in case there is a fire in our home. The instructors from the Fire Safety house stressed the importance to the kids of knowing their own address!!  (Good job to all those students who already know their house number and street number. Everyone else has some information to learn! )

  This morning, we put on a little concert for some senior citizen visitors that came to our school.   Every class did an awesome job performing!  The Kindergarten classes sang "Down By the Bay" and "Mr. Sun". They also sang our school song, "Reach for the Stars" with the rest of the students in our school.

Happy Father's Day !

Last week, everyone painted and decorated a photo frame to take home and give to Dad or someone else that is special in his/her life (just like this one, with a personalized photo of each student, of course) :)  . We hope everyone had a great weekend with their family.

   This afternoon, a group of students from Lincoln School (Grades 6-8), brought over their Rock Bank to entertain us with some of their favourite songs.

We are having some special visitors next week….. some folks from a Care Home… so we have been practicing some special songs to sing for them and entertain them.

Good bye baby Jacob

Today was our last day with baby Jacob, as part of the "Roots of Empathy" program. He has gained so many milestones since we first met him last fall. He is almost 11 months old now. He knows how to walk, tries talking, has teeth, eats regular food, can play with toys, gives lots of smiles, likes books, and so much more! WOW!!  Thank you to baby Jacob and his mom for coming to visit us every month and help teach us about empathy and how to treat others! We must remember to treat our friends the same way we would treat baby Jacob… with care and respect and empathy!

This school year we have practiced "fire" drills and "lock down" drills.  Today we practiced a "tornado warning" drill. We had to move to a room downstairs, with no outside windows, and sit under the tables. Now we are prepared… just in case!

Today we had a presentation from the performer known as "TiBert le Voyageur".  He was a storyteller and musician, he did a little juggling, and more!
