Pattern-mania!

These pattern blocks have really caught the kids' interest this week!  A lot of kids tried copying the patterns on the cards during centre time. They created some interesting designs and patterns.

Today we had a couple of fire drills. Everyone knew exactly what to do to get out of the school safely.

We had some visitors today. They are pre-Kinder students!  They are going to be starting Kindergarten in September, and  they came for a visit to check out what happens at school. We are expecting a few more visitors tomorrow. The boys and girls were great buddies today showing our new Kinders around our room!

Halloween Patterns

Today was a pattern kind of day. We made patterns on the Smart Board, patterns with Halloween erasers, and did a cut and paste Halloween pictures pattern activity. 

Sharing Time today... something that is yellow.  Next week, students are to bring something that is brown. Students who have their turn on Fridays may bring in something brown on any other day, since there is no school on Friday.

 

First thing this morning, we had school pictures!!

Easter is coming soon...

We have noticed that Easter is marked on our April calendar. Most of our class said that is a holiday they talk about at home. Today we did a few activities with this theme in mind. We played "Go Fish" using Easter egg shaped cards (this made it much more "egg-citing", of course). 

  We made some patterns with little foam Easter shapes. We tried to have 3 or more things in the core of our pattern. Can you identify the core of the pattern in each photo below?

  

We started part one of a little project where we had to trace an egg shape, then add some designs to decorate it.

Christmas Patterns

Today for Sharing we had T is for …..Turtle….truck....tea pot

This little fellow presented his Sharing topic this afternoon. He told us T is for….. trees…..and he and his mom baked a LOT of trees! Not only did he show and tell us about this but he shared his  tasty tree treats with the whole class!….and they were very delicious  !  Thanks for sharing your sharing!  :)

Today we did some work with patterns using little Christmas manipulatives. We….created our own patterns…..tried identifying the core (the part that repeats) of other people's patterns….. and tried to identify what came next in other peoples' patterns. Lots of fun!

Ghosts and patterns...

We did a very tricky fine motor skill today ---  which had us cutting on the lines, round and around, to make a 'Ghost' !!!
