The Kissing Hand

Thank you to all the students and their families who helped us make our Room 7 family tree during opening day meetings last week. Here is how it looked after everyone added their fingerprints. It turned out great !
Today we read the story The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. Ask your chid to retell the story to you.

We tried out this website Starfall today. The kids had lots of fun experimenting with the letter sounds. Try it out at home, too!

More sharing with our "All About Me!" bags. Everyone continues to do an awesome job telling us all about themselves (and then picking a prize from the treasure chest for doing a terrific job!)

Does this look familiar? Someone accidentally took this black sweater home yesterday, but returned it today. No one wanted to claim it. Does it belong to your child? (Athletic Works brand, boys size 6). If so, please send me a note and I will make sure it goes to the rightful owner.
Also, Please try to remember to put your child's initials on tags and other belongings. This happens more than you would think!

How to cut...

Today was our first day using scissors in Kindergarten. We talked about keeping our elbow close to our body (not up in the air), putting our thumb in the small hole of the scissors, and making sure our thumb was "up" or on top of the other fingers when we were cutting. Then we practiced cutting on a dotted line... like driving on a road... and we wanted to stay on the road and try not to go in the ditch. :)  Some kids had used scissors before and knew exactly what to do, and for some it was a new experience.  We cut out 3 pictures and put them in sequence to retell the story of "The Kissing Hand". We also coloured the pictures (and talked about how to hold a crayon).

  PUZZLE TIME.....

Mrs. Johannson, our EA, reading a story to one of the students.

Blast Off!!

We have been busy making rockets!!  We had to count how many letters are in our name, and then print those letters on coloured squares (one letter per square) to spell our name. We noticed that some people have longer rockets than other people! We also learned about how to use a glue stick (opening it, turning the glue up, how to spread the glue on the paper, then turning the glue back down and replacing the lid so it doesn't dry up!!!)

Today we re-read the story of "The Kissing Hand". Then we did a few activities that were about this story. We learned how to hold a pencil, and tried printing our names. An easy job for some, challenging for others.

CENTRE TIME......

RECESS TIME.... We are learning about how to play safely on the playground -- as well as how to have fun!!!  (ie. slide down the slide - not climb up, keep our hands to ourselves, do not throw rocks). Don't forget to run to go line up when recess is over and the bell rings!!
