100 Days of School on Valentine's Day

What a busy day we had!! We celebrated both 100 days of school and Valentine's Day today!
This week we made a special Valentine surprise for our families.

We did a LOT of activities about the number 100 this morning!
We started off the day with a number treasure hunt!  We had to find the numbers 1 to 100 that were "hiding" around our room!  We found them all except for the number 63!

We figured out how many people we would need to get 100 fingers!

We counted by tens doing a dot-to-dot on the Smart Board

We made a train of 100 blocks!

We used 100 plastic cups to build towers with!

We put the numbers from 1-100 in order on this Smart Board game.

We predicted whether our heart shaped suckers would be gone after 100 licks.... and they were NOT!

We stamped ten sets of stamps/Bingo dabbers on ten strips of paper to make a 100 day crown!  We are 100 days smarter!

Other 100 day things we did today.....

  • we were quiet for 100 seconds!  (believe it or not!)
  • got to the number 100 on our daily "How many days of school" chart
  • counted 100 popsicle sticks.. bundled into groups of 10.... and now we have one big bundle of 100
  • jumped up and down 100 times.... and after each set of 10 we put a marker on our 10 frame
  • watched 100 day videos
  • read 100 day books
  • sang 100 day songs
  • counted to 100 by ones and by tens
Sharing Time....

We ended the day with a game of musical chairs!
Thank you to Alessandra, Nahom, Chase, and Bella (and their families!) for bringing treats to our Valentine's party. (Two of these kids were sick at home today, and their parents still managed to bring in treats for our party!) Everyone enjoyed all the treats. Thanks!

  • Tomorrow is an inservice day. No school for kids. Teachers will be working on Report Cards.
  • Monday, Feb. 18th is the Provincial Family Day - Louis Riel Day - so no school on Monday.

See you Tuesday!

The Seven Teachings

This young man can make a letter out of anything! Today he used the little blocks to spell.... Happy Valentine's Day ! What great ideas he has!

Today was the first day with our visitor, Richelle Scott. She is the Indigenous Education Teacher for SJASD. She will be visiting us several times over the next couple months, to teach us about "The Seven Teachings". Today she taught us about LOVE - the gift from the Eagle.

We used Valentine cards to make patterns today!

Library Day today!
L
We did a cooperative game today -- where everyone had a heart with a picture, and we had to find another person who had a picture that rhymed with the picture on our own heart. We did it!
Rhyming is a hard concept for some children. Practice rhyming at home-- read books with rhymes, create your own rhymes - with real or silly nonsense words. Practice, practice, practice!

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day --- AND it is the 100th day of Kindergarten!!   Don't forget to bring your Valentine's to school!

Weekend news

Most Mondays, we orally share our "weekend news". Today we did just that! Then we wrote our news down on a paper. Here is what one little girl wanted to share about her busy weekend. (I like that she included the "happy meal" on the top left, as well as the "golden arches" on top of the McDonald's restaurant in her picture. We talk about making sure our picture matches the story!)

We checked out this heart shaped ten-frame today. How many heart erasers are in the 10 frame?  and how many spaces do NOT have a heart eraser in them?  We want to be able to answer quickly, without having to count each and every one.

We did a cooperative activity today.... where we had to work together to match up the lowercase heart letters with the uppercase letters!!  Everyone worked well together - and got the job done quickly!

Centre time.....

These are the kids who came to school with a "Poem in their Pocket" today!  Thanks for sharing with us!

Last week, Remy brought in a lot of books for the book exchange -- and wanted to make sure everyone in our class was able to participate in the book exchange. So that meant each person was able to bring home a gently used book from the school book exchange. Thank you very much, Remy!

Candy Land

Mrs. Johannson's daughter joined us for part of the day. (She has a day off from her high school exams.) The kids were excited to play the board game "Candy Land" with her.

We have been missing some kids each day this week. Today we had 4 kids absent.
We ended the day and the week with a popcorn treat!

Sharing Time

Just a reminder that it is an in-service day tomorrow. No school for kids..... but teachers will be having some Professional Development.
Have a great weekend everyone!
