Outdoor painting/drawing

We went outside to do some painting today. We used the fence for our easels.

We also used sidewalk chalk..for a variety of things!!
This little girl drew a cat and wrote "the end of the cat"

Some kids made a path -- we called them our dinosaur trails -- and wrote START and END.....and then the kids used their gross motor skills to follow the path- including a few jumping circles along the way!

We had some hopscotch artists too... and they didn't stop printing numbers at 10.....

We also did story time outside in the teepee today.

Our class received a card in the mail today!!  It is a congratulation card for finishing Kindergarten, and going on to Grade One!  It came all the way from TEXAS!  Thank you very much to my Auntie Connie in Texas. She reads our blog every day, and leaves us comments every once in a while. We have really appreciated that, as the kids look forward to responding to comments on the blog! It gives us another opportunity to use our literacy skills (reading the comment and writing a response together, letter/sound associations), and social skills (using greetings, responding to compliments, etc.). Thank you so much to everyone else who has left us a comment, too!

Dinosaur math

Today we were sorting dinosaurs, and measuring them using a non-standard unit (blocks). We compared the size of the dinosaurs to each other, and then arranged them from the smallest to the biggest dinosaur!

Ms. Amaral stopped by to talk to the class about STRANGER DANGER. We discussed what to do if you get lost in a store, and/or if a stranger approaches you and tries to lead you out of the store. Ask your child to tell you what he/she learned today!

Shout NO!

Dominoe math... and telling number stories ... using the Smart Board!  ( If you have 1 cookie, and then you get 3 more cookies... how many cookies will you have altogether?  3 + 1 = 4

Ms. Amaral read us this story today, as part of the "Kids in the Know" program.  The message was...
"If you're asked to go, and your parents don't know, Shout NO!!!"

Someone was very interested in creating dinosaurs out of lego today!  And then she drew a dinosaur, and drew a measuring tool right beside it to measure it!!

Fire Station

We went for a walk this morning... to Fire Station #11!   Everyone was so excited to be there. We climbed into the fire truck, saw the "Jaws of Life", saw a fireman slide down the fire pole, learned about the special equipment each fireman wears to a call, and heard the sound of the fire call at the station. Each student even had a chance to spray the fire hose at 3 pylons and knock them over!!  What a great adventure we had this morning, as we learned more about these community helpers!
