Rainbow Names

This is how the rainbow names turned out. Everyone did an awesome job with their names. We also counted how many letters were in our names and how many  parts (syllables) each person has in their names.

Here's a few more photos from the first day of school....

Stevenson School Library has had the good fortune of being adopted by Chapters Polo Festival for the 2013 Adopt a School campaign. It will run in-store from September 15 to October 5. We are looking for your help of meeting our goal of raising money for 257 books, or one new book for every student in the school.
  • Follow this link -
Earn books for Stevenson     http://bit.ly/1dql4bh - to adopt Stevenson School. This is a FREE action and will help earn books for the library. From here you can also help spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and by email. If you have multiple email addresses, you can use them to adopt more than once.
At Stevenson School, we believe that fun, quality literature fosters a life long love of reading. Please help us fill our library with books that will impact every child in our school. Know that Stevenson staff and students are grateful for your help.

We Share (Almost) Everything...

Today we read the story We Share Everything, by Robert Munsch.  We thought it was pretty funny!  Then we put on our "thinking hats" and thought about things that we DO share in Kindergarten and also things that we DO NOT want to share in Kindergarten.  We talked a lot about germs and how they can be spread.
(Parents:  We still have many kids who need reminders to wash their hands after using the bathroom......please help your child develop the habit of always washing their hands after using the toilet! Thanks)....

We like playing at Lite Brite.

This purple sand is pretty cool!

Music

Today was our second music class. Our music teacher's name is Ms. Rempel.  We go to music every Day 5 and Day 6. It is a lot of fun in music class. Ms. Rempel also has a music blog. Check it out here -- Ms. Rempel's music blog  or you can find it also by clicking on the  Site We Like Page at the top of this blog.

We start off our mornings by signing in on the Smart Board.
For now, we are learning to find our own name from the mixture of names, and then sort our name into the circle for the "boy group" or the "girl group".

OUR job today helped develop our fine motor skills. We had to rip up paper into little pieces.......

...... and then glue the paper onto letters of our name

After finishing our job, each person got to dig around in the treasure chest and look for a little treasure!!!

Centres

We started off the day with a school wide assembly today. We listened to the announcements from Ms. Couch, sang O'Canada, and watched the video of our school song.

We had fun at centres today!  While we were playing, we were also learning how to .....co-operate, share, listen to our friends, take turns speaking, work together, speak in an "inside voice", be respectful and keep our hands and body to ourself,  etc. ............. We were also  working on developing fine-motor skills, pencil skills, literacy and numeracy skills, and the list goes on and on and on........
