Snowflakes..

Making patterns out of various sizes, shapes, and colours of snow flakes.

We were snowflake detectives. Mrs. Grant gave us clues today, and we had to find the correct number to match the answer to her clue -- on the snowflake!
ie.
  • "What comes after 11?"
  • "If I had 9 candies, and I ate one, how many would I have left?"
  • "If there were 5 kids on the bus, and 5 more got on, how many kids would be on the bus all together?"

Richelle Scott, Indigenous teacher for our school division, visited our school today. She introduced us to drumming, and taught us a song in another language.

A baby visit

Baby Elias came to visit us today! We were surprised at how much he could move around. He can spin around  and rock back and forth on his hands and knees, but he can not crawl yet....but we think it might happen soon!  He also showed us different kinds of emotions!

Some of the kids playing a snowman game. We had to cover the number we rolled (to match the number of dots on the die). If we rolled a 5, and the number 5 was already covered on the snowman, we could cover the 2 AND THE 3 ...because 2 and 3 make 5!!!

Mittens

We are remembering to drink our water, to help keep us hydrated. A message on the intercom today said sometimes we even can be grumpy if we do not drink enough water!
We have been reading several different books about mittens over the past several school days. This is one of our mitten games -- matching uppercase to lowercase letters, and spelling words with the letters.  We used our teamwork skills to get the job done!
We also decided to be the author of our own Room 7 mitten book.

Are you hydrated?

Star of the Week!
Our shining star did an excellent job sharing all the information on her All About Me poster!!

The following information was sent out by our Phys-Ed teachers. This week, all students were given a disposable water bottle and everyone is encouraged to drink lots of water during the week. Kinder students who drink at least one bottle each day will be given a ticket each day to enter a draw for a prize, which will be awarded next week.

Dehydration/Hydration Facts:

1. Did you know… Dehydration means that you do not have enough water in your body.

2. Did you know… Dehydration causes fatigue, makes us grumpy and makes it hard to concentrate. So if you are feeling tired or grumpy, have a cup of water.

3. Did you know… If you are feeling thirsty, it means that you are dehydrated.

4. Did you know… Are you hungry for lunch, but lunch is still a long ways away? Have a drink of water. It will help you feel like you are not quite as hungry.

5. Did you know… If your nose, throat or eyes feel dry, drink some water.

6. Did you know… If you are thirsty, pop and other drinks with caffeine, do not hydrate you. In fact, they make your body even more thirsty. Water is the best choice for a drink.

7. Did you know… People can survive up to 50 days without food, but only a few days without water.

8. Did you know… If you play sports, or do something physically active that makes you sweat, you need to drink even more water than your basic amount. You should take sips of water before, during and after your exercise.

9. Did you know… Drinking juice, pop and other sugary drinks can hurt your teeth and cause cavities. Your best choice is water!

10. Not sure if you are dehydrated? Check your pee. If it is a very light yellow, like pale straw, you are hydrated! If it is any darker, you are dehydrated! Go have some water and keep taking small sips throughout the day.

Mrs. Macdonell read us a story about feelings, and talked to us about noticing how other people are feeling. We noticed different expression on baby Elias' face, too, the last time he visited us.

Smelly snow

We played with a different kind of "snow" in our classroom today (a little imagination needed here, please). It had a really nice smell to it. We were able to draw snowmen shapes in it, print our names, and make lots of interesting drawings. It was a little messy, in a good kind of way.

We read a couple interesting stories today. Ask your child to tell you all about them. (I recommend that you check out this first book at the public library and read it at home, too.)

We had 2 indoor recess times today. We had a little dance party for part of one recess, and some kids also went to the gym to play.
PLEASE NOTE:  Students go outside to play for 3 recess times each school day. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately to play outside. If the weather is -28C or colder (with or without the wind chill) at recess time, students will be kept inside.
On the Smart Board today.....First we made a wintery pattern (the core was an ABCD pattern) then we added actions to the pattern. We like trying to do the actions quickly!!  Lots of giggles!
